Indirect grilling prevents burning while the center softens. To par-cook whole sweet potato, scrub skin and pierce 4 or 5 times randomly wth fork to allow steam to escape. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes until slightly softened, then finish on grill for 10-15 minutes.
